Woven in Wa

Talata Tutigah

Talata Tutigah settled in Wa from Navrongo. Disappointed not to have been given the opportunity to take weaving lessons in school because they were reserved for male weavers, she soon joined the weaving classes at Nandom Vocational Institute when the opportunity arose. She has been weaving for 22 years.

Talata sees herself as a master weaver and works full time as a prisons officer where she teaches weaving to the inmates.

Talata feels she has an obligation towards those from underprivileged backgrounds or without formal training. Her spare hours are spent sharing her skills with them in her shop.
